Assist Call

Introduction

Under the Equality Act, building owners have a duty of care to ensure the safety of all building occupants, especially those less able.

Buildings Regulations Approved Document M was written to provide the requirements for these systems and applies to all buildings other than pure dwelling places. This requires the fitting of emergency assistance alarm systems to allow users of the disabled facilities to call for help should they need it. BS8300 provides additional guidance on the implementation of this requirement.

The “Assist Call” system is designed to provide a fully compliant and scalable solution to building owners with many unique benefits, including clear indication, acoustic and visual feedback and high quality stainless steel finishes to blend into all locations.

In simple systems where the accessible room in in a permanently staffed area a basic kit can be used.

However where the accessible room is in a remote location a means of signalling that help is on the way is required; Assist call provides this by switching from the two tone alarm signal to a short period of beeps every 15 seconds, the visual indication also changes from flashing to steady; indicating to the occupant that help is on the way.

If the call is not cancelled within two minutes of acceptance the system reverts to full alarm again. In line with BS8300 the alarm call should only be cancelled from the location the call was generated from.

For simplicity all wiring is standard two core cable, and unlike other systems the wiring order of the devices is not fixed, allowing the designer total flexibility in the installation routes.

Fully compliant to BS8300:2009 and Building Regulations Approved Document M:2010.

All accessories are stainless steel with unique blue LED “Halo” indicators.

Accept Function as detailed In BS8300.

The Combined Over-door Indicator and Controller saves installation time.

Up to six devices can be connected per controller zone.

All wiring is two core and units can be wired in any order.

High quality two part terminals suitable for 2.5mm CSA cable.

Installation

All installations should conform to Buildings Regulations Approved Document M. The picture on the left shows the correct locations of call and cancel points for an accessible toilet. For other locations such as accessible bedrooms, shower facilities and changing facilities, please refer to the current versions of BS8300 and Approved Document M for additional guidance.

The over door plate is built in a single gang brushed stainless steel plate as standard with a blue halo indicator for the visual alarm and a buzzer for the audible alarm. For simplicity all wiring is a standard two core cable, the wiring order of the plates is not fixed and therefore can be wired in any order to give total flexibility in the installation routes. Each plate has two sets of two part terminals allowing simple cable connections and also a complete first fix solution.

Up to a total of three ViLX-CNP and ViLX-ODP can be accommodated on a single line because of power consumption.
